Description: The item for sale is a finely carved elephant sculpture that was made in Zimbabwe during the late twentieth century by Willard Marjonie, a member of the Shona tribe. The sculpture is made of verdite, a green stone. The sculpture has an attractive uniform deep green color. The detail of the carving is exceptional. The muscle and bone structures of the elephant are well defined. The form is dynamic and appears to be in motion. The bottom is signed by Marjonie. Another work by this sculptor has appeared in a European auction catalog. The statuette was previously owned. One of the tusks has a piece missing. There is a small loss to the verdite where this tusk attaches. The approximate size is 6 1/2" x 4 1/2" x 5 1/4". The weight is 1.5 kg.
