Don't miss out on this amazing addition to your music collection! ABOUT THE ZANJA ALL STARS: The thing about Cuban musicians is that one day you'll be blown away by what you think is the greatest tres or trumpet or sax player (or name whatever your instrument) only to discover an even better tres or trumpet or sax player (or whatever) the day after! Such is the enormity of Cuban talent. And such is the premise of all star bands...especially the Cuban ones. In the late 1950's/1960's all star bands were conceived to display the extraordinary talents of known experienced musicians, or in other words the 'creme-de-la-creme'. Bands such as Orquestra Cubana de Musica Moderna or Quinteto Instrumental De Musica Moderna showcased the very best talent Cuba had to offer. Keeping with this tradition Zanja Records assembled the 'best of' the creme-de-la creme ensemble consisting of up and coming as well as seasoned musicians. The journey was not an easy one; Zamja took no prisoners and those musicians, however good they may be, that didn't have the right feel or the right chops were replaced until the perfect permutation and combination was achieved. When the gel of musicianship and songs occurred Cuban Jam Session Volume 1 was recorded. Putting together this great talent and getting the best out of them was successfully achieved by Producer Michael Delanian, himself no novice of the music industry having recorded on numerous releases on international record labels. Delanian extracted the vibrancy, urgency, and the passion required of a world class act as this band of musicians and singers are as good if not better than anything out there now. Delayed by the great pandemic of 2020, Zanja Records chose now (2024) as the right time for their first release. ABOUT ZANJA RECORDS: Label boss Alex Gonzalez doesn't do anything half-baked. He is a professional in all he does and in putting together Zanja Records (originally called Zanja 607 after a once bustling street in Havana) spared no expense, time or effort. Whether it was to import instruments and recording equipment from Canada, the USA or Europe or do business with EGREM or with the Cuban government agencies he maneuvered his way gracefully and along with Michael Delanian got the project up and running to the point where we now have a physical product (vinyl LP and CD) on the market with more to come. Music aside, the depth of quality put into the vinyl release is simply stunning. In its' heyday labels like Panart, Puchito, Kubaney and a few others would press their records on thick 165 to 175g vinyl. Eventually, with EGREM/Areito taking over after the revolution and with the oil crisis of the early 1970's it was not uncommon to find then current pressings weighing only 110 to 120g. These pressings did not sound great and did not last the test of time very well. The "Cuban Jam Sessions Volume 1" is pressed on 200g meaning the sonics and durability are at their best. This LP will last 100+ years just like the old Panart's, etc having lasted 60+ years so far. In the 1970's Areito started issuing paper like sleeves weighing in around 25g or less. Compare this to the old Panart, Kubaney, Puchito, etc at around 150 to 155g. These sleeves have lasted although their weakness was in their binding. Weak bindings eventually led to split seams. Now, Zanja Records has set a new standard. The sleeve for 'Cuban Jam Sessions Volume 1' is a heavyweight champion at 230g. Examine the bindings and the chances for split seams will be zero to very little. Their gatefold sleeve doesn't 'crack' either. Many gatefold sleeves from the old days will spilt in two when opened. As an added touch the glossy sleeve is laminated with a coating that prevents smudges or fingerprints to stick on the sleeve. Your sleeve will always look great. The vinyl record itself comes with a lined static free envelope. There is also an 8 page booklet. What more can one ask for! This pressing was made by collectors for collectors! With more Zanja pressings to follow Zanja Records will become THE symbol and set new standards on how to produce great music in a superior packaging. COLLECTORS - TAKE NOTE: The vinyl pressing is available only in limited numbers. This WILL become a collector's item and likely the artwork will get nominated for a graphic award - it is THAT good!
