Description: I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York ....... This is a rare April 1975 playbill from the Pre-Broadway engagement of the MITCH LEIGH and ERICH SEGAL musical "ODYSSEY" (later retitled "HOME SWEET HOMER") at the Colonial Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts. (The production began a year-long tour in Washington, D.C. in December 1974 and after being retitled "HOME SWEET HOMER" would open January 4th, 1976 at the Palace Theatre in New York City and close the same night after only one performance.) ..... Loosely based on the Homeric legend, the musical starred YUL BRYNNER in his first Broadway musical since "The King and I", twenty-three years earlier and JOAN DIENER (both shown in the cover photo) and featured RUSS THACKER, DIANA DAVILA, CATHERINE LEE SMITH, MARTIN VIDNOVIC and SHEV RODGERS ..... Side Note: Beset by litigation from both cast members and several members of the creative team, author ERICH SEGAL ("Love Story", "The Yellow Submarine") left the production on the road and successfully sued to have his name removed from the credits ..... DETAILS: The 32 page playbill measures 5 5/8" X 9" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes and bios of each of the leading actors but with the exception of the front cover, no cast photos or list of musical numbers ..... CONDITION: With the exception of light creasing from normal handling, this playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
