Although they've just saved Brigade, Battlestone is reluctant to trust the newcomers, but Kayo convinces him to give it a try. A few days later, both teams are found by Imperial High Guard. Fighting through the imperial forces, the two teams are led back towards the citadel, where Genocide is waiting for them. Genocide challenges Battlestone to a one-on-one match. Should Battlestone win, the Magistrate will teleport Brigade back to Earth, but should he lose, they'll all become Genocide's personal slaves. Genocide exacts the combat by opening the floor and dropping himself and Stone into The Pit. While fighting, Genocide explains he's doing this to regain his honor and he mocks heroes for being too soft to deliver the killing blow. Battlestone states he's got what it takes, but when Genocide eggs him on to kill him, Battlestone says he's not worth it. The two combatants are interrupted by Brigade and the Birds of Prey bursting through a wall to join in. Nevertheless, Battlestone insists on fighting Genocide himself, and leaves the teams to take care of the guards. Genocide attempts a sneak attack against Stone, but when Talyn gets Battlestone out of the way, the attack hits Atlas instead, killing him. In a fury, Battlestone pummels Genocide, but Talyn stops him just short from killing the prince, saying he can't let Bloodstone do that and that he'll see that Genocide sees justice. Talyn shares Stone's grief, but killing Genocide won't bring Atlas back to life. The surviving members of Brigade board a ship and barely manage to escape the citadel, heading for open space, and Earth. While Kayo drives, Thermal tries telling Stone Atlas' death wasn't his fault, but Stone disagrees, reflecting internally on how he's made so many mistakes throughout his life, and maybe that's what drives him on. His question, now, is whether he can ensure Atlas' death wasn't in vain. Three months later, Kahn and another man at the Pentagon discusses Brigade's disappearance. They mention they're watching Spicer, a Brigade sympathiser within the government, in case he leads them to the team.
