Description: This Yamaha AVX-100U is offered as-is, and is usable as a basic stereo receiver/amplifier or a source of parts. The audio section is mostly working with the following caveats:The sub-amplifier assembly for the "B" speakers is dead. Both UPC1188H amplifier ICs appear to have shorts between their outputs and the positive rail. Power going to the sub-amp assembly has been left disconnected and safely secured in order to prevent this issue from triggering the main amplifier's protection circuit.The speaker relay for the main amplifier ("A" speakers) could use replacement as it is intermittent, sometimes requiring a tap or increase in volume for the channel to cut in.Please note that the analog video inputs/outputs, Dolby surround processing functions, IR remote sensing, and rear-panel remote control ports have NOT been tested. You will need a short RCA jumper pair to connect from the "Front" RCA outputs to the "Main In A" RCA inputs, otherwise the output of the preamp cannot reach the input of the power amp. The following functions have been tested:Main amplifier for the "A" speakers. Runs stable from 20 Hz to 20 KHz delivering 65 W RMS into an 8 Ohm load. Adjusted bias for both channels per service manual.Preamp section. All RCA inputs and outputs have been tested. Confirmed that all inputs can also be routed to the audio record outputs. Volume, Bass/Mid/Treble, balance, and center level potentiometers have been cleaned and operate smoothly. Bass extension switch is slightly noisy when switching but stable when in its final positionAll front panel tactile switches are functional. All indicator LEDs aside from the "Muting" LED have been tested and confirmed to work.The following functions have NOT been tested:Composite/S-Video inputs/outputsDolby surround processingIR remote control sensingRear panel remote control portsThe following service work has been done to the unit:Reworked several poor solder joints on the main boardCleaned front panel potentiometers with DeoxITCalibrated main amplifier biasUnit is in decent cosmetic condition; some scratches on the faceplate, rear panel has some rust. One of the rear-panel switched AC outlets has a corner broken off.
