Description: Original WW2 USAAF Fighter Pilot’s combat Flight Helmet rig, named to; Officer Vincent J. Palmero, who served in the E.T.O. with the 8th Air Force and flew P-38 Lightings and P-51 Mustangs, soft brown leather helmet with large rubber ear cups that hold the original ANB-H-1 radio headphone receivers, complete with ‘Y’ cord and red plug, the outside of the helmet has the Wing & Star insignia marked Army Air Forces, the inside of the helmet is chamois lined and also has the Wing & Star insignia, the black and gold wartime label is marked TYPE A-11, size Medium, Property Air Force, US Army, the helmet comes with the attached green rubber Oxygen Mask marked; Properly Air Force U.S. Army, TYPE A-14, and is dated 1944, it has the original flexible connecting hose and correct Radio Microphone and plug , TYPE ANB-M-C-1, the mask straps have some wear but are still solid to display, there is an aluminum nameplate attached to the hose and is stamped; V.J. Palmero, the Flight Helmet has an aluminum tag attached to the rear goggle strap and is stamped 7461, there is also a corresponding tag attached to an auxiliary Oxygen Mask strap also stamped 7461, this may be the last four digits of his service number, included is an 8x10 original photo of Officer Vincent Palmero in uniform when he earned his Pilot Wings. All items were found together at a house sale. The foam display head is included, good used condition.
