Description: STK: #BAYO-8Brought to you by CAMARILLO TRADERS specialists in new, used & antique arms, collectible militaria and rustic ephemera WWII Japanese Type I (Italian), Type 38 and Type 99 Rifles Type 30 School Training Sword Bayonet & (NON-Japanese) Metal Scabbard (Possibly German?) Manufacturer: Scrubbed, Worn Off Model: Type 30, Early War Blade Length: Approximately 15.00" Serial #: N/A TEXT GOES HERETEXT GOES HERE --> Offered here is a Japanese Type 30 Training bayonet that fits Type 30, Type 38, Type 99 and Type I rifles. Several manufacturers made bayonets during WWII such as Hikari Seiki Seisakusho, Matsushita Kinzoku, Riken Kozai, Toyokawa Kaigun kosho and Toyoda Jido Shokki Seisakusho. Early bayonets had the hooked quillion, fullered blade, contoured grips with escutcheons screws and birds head pommel. Later bayonets removed the quillion, fuller and had a straight wood grip as they tried to save time to crank out the bayonets. Training bayonets were not produced to military specifications, so often times, these did not mount to service rifles. Typical features of training bayonets are shallow/sloppy fullers, no arsenal markings, thin crosspiece and poorly fitting press studs. School bayonet scabbards were made crudely with simple welded frog loops and integral metal throats. Overall, this bayonet is in Fair - Good condition, considering its age and history. The press catch is functional with stiff spring tension. Both the catch and the mortise have light oxidation. It is also is a bit sticky. The pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. They both have impact marks, oxidation and scrapes. It looks like the quillon was possibly repaired. The remaining finish has turned to a darker gray patina color. The screws securely fasten the grips. They have light tool marks and oxidation in the slots. The wood grip panels have light chips, compressions, draglines and scrapes. The wood has started to darken with age. The spine, sides and fullers have oxidation and scrapes. There are no nicks or dings on the blade's cutting edge and it appears to have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a dull straight point. The remaining finish is in the white, but has turned a gray patina color. There are no manufacturer or serial number markings, they have been scrubbed off. The scabbard is NOT an original Japanese issued scabbard. We don't know the history of it, but it came with the bayonet so we left the pair together. It could possibly be German. The scabbard is in Poor - Fair condition, considering its age and history. The frog stud is securely fastened to the body. The body has impact marks, oxidation and scrapes. Some of the original finish is left and what is left has started to turn a gray patina color. The scabbard is marked "8766" above the frog stud and "D" on the opposite side. This bayonet and (non-Japanese) scabbard will be a great addition to your Japanese rifle, or a bayonet collection in general.
