Original WWII purple back (and some green too), very rare, a few bits of paper stuck on back. Why a purple back? Early in the war 100s of units were mobilized, and there was a tremendous demand for olive green thread for uniforms, tents, field gear, etc. So olive green thread for patches was sometimes scarce and manufacturers had to use whatever they had on hand for the bobbin (back) thread. Purple wasn't being used for much else so it was a good temporary expedient to put on back where it wouldn't be seen, used briefly until olive green thread could be obtained for the rest of the order. RETURNS: Generally, all sales are final. I will accept a return within 7 days from receipt if there is an error in the description which significantly affects the value.
