Description: This is an extremely fine World War II German AFRIKAKORPS cuff title that is in excellent, uniform removed condition. The title ‘AFRIKAKORPS’ is executed in Latin block lettering machine woven in bright, flat silver wire bullion thread on a dark green center stripe with the correct diagonal weave silver metallic border above and below, all on a khaki cotton background that measures ⅞ inches in width and 15½ inches and shows evidence of having been sewn on a uniform. Sewing machine needle holes and remnants of thread can be seen along the upper and lower edges. There is one small and insignificant area of wear above the letter ‘R’ that was the result of service wear. The ends of cuff title were once sewn together, and you can see where they were folded over before being sewn together. This is piece that was actually worn in service in the deserts of North Africa and was removed from the same uniform as the AK breast eagle also offered on our site. It remains a truly beautiful example with that very desirable ‘been there’ look. The ‘AFRIKAKORPS’ cuff title was authorized on July 18, 1941, by Generalfeldmarschall Walther von Brauchitsch for wear by members of the German Afrika Korps. It was awarded for at least six months of service in North Afrika or any lesser period if the recipient was decorated for bravery, was wounded or if killed – in which case a posthumous award was made. Those who contracted a debilitating illness which required evacuation required three months active service prior to illness. The cuff title was worn on the left sleeve of the service and dress uniforms.8907
