These were used by the Czech Army and exported to several countries. Modified bayonets were used by Germany during WWII. These were made by Ceskoslovenska zbrojovka a.s., Brno. The earlier version Vz-23 bayonets were too long so they shortened it four inches. In 1940 Germany ordered 150,000 rifles and bayonets. There were blued, prior and post bayonets were in the white. The blade and spine are reversed - the blade edge is on the top. Overall, this bayonet is in Very Good - Very Good Plus condition, considering its age and history. The press catch is functional with stiff spring tension. Both the pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. There are a few scrape marks and some light superficial oxidation. The coloring has turned a darker patina color. The screw escutcheons securely fasten the two wood grip panels. They have oxidized and there are light tool marks on the slots. The grip panels have compressions, draglines, scrapes and dark spots. The rest of the wood has darkened with age. The knife appears straight and not bent. The spine, sides and fullers have light scuffs and handling marks with some light finish loss along the leading edges. There are no nicks or dings and the blade appears to have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a sharp straight point. The blade finish has been blued. There is a light layer of oil. The left ricasso is marked "CSZ / Z" and the left guard is marked with the serial number "5038". The metal scabbard is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age and history. The mouth, body and finial have handling marks, scattered scrapes, oxidation and impact marks. The frog stud is securely attached, it has been welded. Very little of the original finish remains, the rest is in the white. The scabbard frog is marked "CSZ / E3" next to a Lion and "37". The serial number is "15209". This bayonet and scabbard will be a great addition to your Czech WWII era rifle, or a bayonet collection in general.
