Description: This is a very fine World War I German Saxon Albert Order Knight's Cross 1st Class with swords in excellent condition. The white enamel in the arms on both sides is in undamaged condition as is the blue enamel in the central disks. The detail in the swords is excellent and well defined. The lower arm is incised with the letter “R”. The green ribbon with white edge stripes is an original piece and remains strong, solid and with vibrant color. The Saxon Albert Order (Albrechts-Orden) was created 31 December 1850 by King Frederick Augustus II of to commemorate Albert III, Duke of Saxony (known as Albert the Bold) and was to be awarded to anyone who had served the state well, for civil virtue, science and art. Beginning in 1866, the Order of Albert was bestowed upon military personnel for merit in the field and to indicate this, a pair of crossed swords was added to the medal. Very often, non-Saxons also received this award. This is a very attractive Imperial German order that displays beautifully.8228
