Description: RAF WW2 1940 Pattern Sidcot Flying Suit dated 1940. A well used condition 1940 Pattern RAF Sidcot flying suit, introduced in late 1940 at the ending stages of the Battle of Britain, and was quickly replaced by the electrically wired 1941 pattern Sidcot suit that provided connections for a heated waistcoat, glove liners and boot liners. The short production span makes them rather rare. The clear label marks it as a Size 5 suitable for a wearer of height 5’10” - 5’11” and a chest size of 38” - 40”. The contract number is dated 1940. An Air Ministry is stamped above it as well as the name of the original wearer. Condition: The suit is in good wearable condition with no rips to the cotton body at all. The suit retains all of the numerous original cream coloured corozo buttons, and there is no loose stitching. The DOT zippers retain all of their cloth pull tabs, however the sleeve and hip zippers have seized from oxidation. The main zip and leg cuff zippers are however in good running condition. The rear half waist-belt is intact and working. This is an issued suit and has minor staining and general grubbiness throughout.
