Description: You are bidding on a SUPERB and VERY RARE example of a 100% WW2 German Kriegsmarine Seekreiselsextant (Gyroscopic Sea Sextant), SKS 3D, as used in many Battleships, Destroyers, Cruisers, and U-Boats!The Kriegsmarine Oktant was used by navigators for long distance calculations. It provided accurate reading, using sidereal (star) navigation, and contained a gyroscope for stability at sea. Nearly identical to the Luftwaffe variant, this is specific to the Kriegsmarine.Made of aluminum and steel, this is a SUPERB German Bubble Sextant in all original condition with its original box! Manufactured by C. Plath of Hamburg, it features the original data label, and clearly indicates all manufacture info. The instrument dates later in the war, probably between 1943 and 1945. Some slight marks and scratches, but nothing that takes away from the overall appearance. It measures approx. 11.5" in length, and comes complete in the original box! Also included are various spare parts, as well as the original (and hard to find) eyepiece! I am not sure if it is functional, so I am selling as-is, and will leave the functionality determination to the winning bidder. Serial number on the box matches the number on the sextant, which indicates this is an original set. Sadly, the "Ein/Aus" toggle switch is broken, but still functional. Should be an easy replacement, if one wished to switch it out. Apart from a broken bulb, this set is 100% COMPLETE! I have shown this EXACT type in use in the last photos. Would make a FANTASTIC addition to any collection, or display!
