It served in France as one of the two infantry brigades of the 2nd Infantry Division all Marine combat units in World War I were organized under the 4th Marine Brigade. The 4th fought actions at Asine Defensive, Belleau Woods, Soissons, St Mihiel, Blanc Mont, and the Meuse Argonne campaign. The Victory medal awarded to the 2nd Division had five campaign bars. In order, from top to bottom, was the Aisne, Aisne Marne, St Mihiel, Meuse Argonne, and the Defensive Sector. There are 457 pages in total in the HQ Detachment book, there are 39 Pages in the 2nd Field Artillery Book, there are 192 pages in the 3rd Infantry Brigade book, and lastly there are 234 pages.
