Description: a true rarity—NEW GODS #1, signed by JACK KIRBY! for kirby fans, this is one of the true "grails!" i acquired this from a big collector who says he got this personally signed around 1974 or 1975 at an early, nyc, comic convention. back in the early days of fandom, most artists had an aversion to signing on comic covers, preferring to "preserve the art," and usually signed on page 1, as is the case here. btw, at the time this was signed, king kirby had only been working at DC (after his legendary work at marvel) for a few years! they famously told him, "do whatever you want," and this issue is one of the results! i would grade this at FN++ to FN/VF, a tiny rip at the far right edge of the cover, and then just a little bit of wear here and there. super bright & colorful—check out how that red in the headline pops!—with good gloss! very nice interior, white pages, maybe a hint of off-white but this isn't so much about the condition of the comic (which is nice), but the JACK KIRBY signature! see pix for more info newly bagged/boarded (in snazzy mylar!) all my comics & books are graded and assessed carefully, and all flaws factored into final grades.
