Description: When World War II broke out, thousands of World War I era canteens were in Quartermaster stores. As was common practice, existing supplies were exhausted before newer models were issued - which explains why we often see World War I arms and equipment in the hands of the American GI. This canteen started out life as a 1918 dated M-1910 canteen that was manufactured by L.F.&C. (Landers, Frary & Clark). These markings are visible on the back wall of the canteen body - but are somewhat light. The cap was replaced with a WWII period cap and chain - likely a refurbished canteen that continued service during the war. While there is no cup, it does come with an August, 1918 dated carrier that was manufactured by L.C.C. - who held various contracts during WWI, including M-1917 helmet liners. An interesting transitional canteen that was produced during WWI, and likely saw service during the inter-war period and WWII. The canteen remains on fair condition, showing signs of age, use, and wear. Heavy age toning is evident, as well as typical dents and scratches from actual use. The cover is good, also showing signs of age, use and wear. Please see the pictures for more detail. Guaranteed 100% authentic in every respect for life.
