Description: This is a complete set of circulated (20) World War II Emergency coins housed in a very nice Meghrig Coin Album. America needed copper and nickel for the war effort during WW2 so began to make nickels in 35% silver partway through 1942 and pennies out of steel in 1943 because copper was needed for shell cases and nickel was needed to jacket rounds. The steel pennies were not popular with the public so the Mint used spent shell cases to make the pennies in this set made in 1944 and 1945. This set has all 11 of the 35% silver nickels, all 1943 steel pennies and all of the shell case pennies from 1944 and 1945.The coins shown here, are the actual coins that the successful buyer shall receive.
