Description: This letter and envelope are fully intact with no rips. There are minor wrinkles and stains and color aging from being over 100 years of age. It belonged to my wonderful father-in-law who lived to 99.5 years of age. He was inducted into the U.S. army in 1917 I believe. Sadly I do not have details of his service in France and Germany. He did not want to talk about it, though there were a few photos of his time in France. FromNational Museum of the United States Air Force:By the time theUnited States joined the effort in 1917, Great Britain had been at war with theCentral Powers since August, 1914. The bulk of Gen. John "BlackJack" Pershing's American Expeditionary Forces began arriving at theWestern Front in the spring of 1918, after first stopping in England beforesailing for France. Upon their arrival in England, many soldiers andairmen were given an envelope containing a very special message from KingGeorge V.
