WORKING 1950s Zenith Military R174/URR Receiver & Power Supply& Phones- NR

Description: WORKING 1950s Zenith Military R174/URR Receiver, Power Supply, and Headphones-Working NRHere for your consideration is a 1950s Zenith Military R174/URR Receiver, Homebrew Power Supply, and Headphones in working condition offered No Reserve.I picked this up recently. The owner had built the power supply (replacing the PP-308/URR power supply).and had it working on his bench playing through a speaker he wanted to keep. It comes with a set of Brandes headphones, or use your own speaker.I'm no expert on this set, but I could pick up stations with no antenna attached! It has some paint loss, and could use a good cleaning, but I don’t find another being offered or that was sold recently that the seller stated WORKING. All are offered nonworking or for parts only.Truthfully, I didn't spend a lot of time with it, but it does work and is offered No Reserve. It measures 15" H x 14 1/2"W x11" D, and weighs approximately 30lbs. From the NET:During the 1950s and 1960s, the United States military used a compact mobile shortwave receiver called the AN/GRR-5, which was affectionately known as the "Angry 5." The GRR-5 was initially designed as a gas warning receiver to be mounted in vehicles and sound an alarm in case of a gas attack. Later, it was expanded to include nuclear and biological attack warnings as well. It's important to note that the AN/GRR-5 was not a communications receiver. However, since it was considered a solution to a nonexistent problem, most of these receivers were never deployed and were eventually sold off as surplus between 1978 and 1985.The radio set is composed of two chassis, namely the R-174/URR receiver and the PP-308/URR power supply(The one being auctioned has a Home brew power supply). The paint has been retained well but there is the expected wear present with paint loss. The cases do have dings and scratches in them, but do not be alarmed as it just adds to the rugged look of the unit as a whole. This multi-band radio provides coverage for a frequency range of 1.5 Mhz to 18 Mhz, over four bands. It is important to note that the standard broadcast band is not covered by this radio. The tuning knob is located on the right side, and above it, there is a small tuning dial for precise tuning. On the left side of the radio, there are large connectors for the antenna and ground, the RF gain knob, and a four-position bandswitch, which allows for quick and easy switching between the radio's four bands. The antenna trimmer knob is located below and to the left of the tuning knobs for further tuning options. At the top right corner of the radio, there is a Monitoring Input connector with a removable cap. To its left, there is a four-position mode switch for PHN, CW, NET, and CAL, which allows for the selection of different operating modes. Just below the mode switch, there are two Phones connectors, also with removable caps, for connecting headphones. At the lower right side of the radio, there are two knobs, the BFO and AF Gain, which control the audio and signal processing. Between the two knobs, there is a two-position output switch for LO/HI, allowing for the selection of different output levels.************************************************************************************ Remember, this is no reserve, so the high bidder will be the new owner. As I trim my collection, I try to sell a variety of interesting, hard to find Radios, Amplifiers, Record Players, Vinyl, Stereo Receivers, Speakers, Telephones, Transistor Radios, Tube Hi Fi and Audio, Television, Amateur Radio and Communication Devices, Vacuum Tubes, Telegraphs, Gaming Equipment, Early Computers and Calculators. 2)Check out all my other JIVE BINs and auctions, and mark me as a Favorite Seller. September to May is my selling season. There is something here for any vintage electronics collector or nostalgia buff. My current feedback is 100.00% with almost 7000 feedbacks. I was the President of the New England Antique Radio Club and then the New England Vintage Electronics Club for six years. I stepped down at the end of 2018 to concentrate on finding new owners for the Vintage Electronics my son is not interested in. 3) I value you as a customer, and more importantly, a returning customer. I reward your fast payment with excellent packing, and lightning fast shipping. 4) I have no interest in taking advantage of anyone, and I have no need to. If you understand what you are buying, and how Vintage Electronics work, you will be very happy. If you don't understand how to put an antenna on an old tube radio, or how to connect speakers to a Vintage Amplifier, join a local Antique Radio or Vintage Electronics Club. If you don't know where your closest club is, let me know, and I'll tell you. If you don't know how to hook up or use what you are buying, or know someone who does, please don't buy. ASK QUESTIONS about anything you don't understand. I want you to be happy. 5) Shipping is expensive. You can pick your item up with NO SHIPPING costs at my home 50 miles north of Boston with advanced notice. The eBay concept of "free shipping" is one of the 3 biggest lies. We are the best packers on eBay, and pack YOUR item the way we'd like to receive it-if it was being sent to us. We take extra care in packaging, (Bubble wrap, foam pellets, proper boxes, etc.)(NOT the wadded up newspaper trick) There is a cost for doing this right. Our goal is to get it to you in good shape, and for you to not have to file those fruitless shipping claims. Let's face it, once it's broke, it's broke. We have lost a significant amount of money in packaging costs over the past 25 years, and will continue to do so to get it to you in one piece. 6) YOU & US: Note that the majority of what we sell is antique, vintage, and/or collectable electronics. For liability purposes, Radioorphanage / Bruce Phillips accept NO responsibility for how the buyer uses or misuse of the items. We see you as a valued customer, and want you to be happy. Buy with confidence, as we are in this for the long haul- not for a quick buck. If you are not happy, for any reason, let us know and we'll try to make it right. 7) Questions? Please ask!
