Description: Vintage Wooden Ribbon Weaving Two Piece Loom Shuttle Robert G. Platt Worcester MA For Your Sewing, Weaving or Textile Related Collection-RibbonShuttle12 Details Description: A beautiful old two-piece wood ribbon shuttle for a loom. The base of the shuttle has one channel with one wooden gear. It has a moving handle, which still has a thread bobbin in it with a hole on top. It is from an old ribbon weaving loom. The wooden box or base has holes so that it can be mounted vertically on the front of a giant loom, with the thread feeding out the hole in the top of the handle. The bottom of the shuttle is notched and a cog wheel or gear adjusts the angle of the shuttle on the base. The handle is smooth and is made of a darker and nicely finished hard wood when compared to the wood of the base. The base has a brown painted wood screwed into the base at the end where the gear resides. The piece is marked "ROBERT G. PRATT/WORCESTER MASS" on the edge of the base. This shuttle would display very well as a decorative piece or in your collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: Uncertain but most likely early to mid-1900s. Origin: Was purchased at an estate auction in Southern New Jersey. Size: The base measures ~4 1/2" by ~2 5/8" and is ~1 1/4" high at the end where the gear is and ~7/8" at the other end. The hand or shuttle itself is ~4" long, ~2 3/4" at its highest and is ~7/8" at its widest. The piece itself weighs about 6.5 ounces. Maker: Robert G. Pratt. Marks: The piece is marked "ROBERT G. PRATT/WORCESTER MASS" on the edge of the base. There is also the number 9909 or 6066 on the bottom of the shuttle itself depending on how you look at the numbers. Condition: The piece is in very good condition with no breaks, or repairs. There is what we believe is a short and stable crack below the brown painted wood in the top of the light finished base portion (see 2nd photo). However, the piece is still intact and solid. The surface of both pieces (the base and the moving handle) have some soiling on the exterior, some minor scratches, and minor dings throughout. One hole (the one in the higher portion of the base) has what looks like lining to protect it from the fastener that would have attached the piece to the loom. There are also a few spots where the wood is dinged and there are small stains as well as markings throughout. The piece has wear commensurate with its age and utilitarian function. This is honest wear and gives the piece great character. All in all, the piece is intact and in good condition. Please view photos to appreciate quality of the piece and for additional condition information. Our Guarantee Please view our 100% positive feedback and bid with confidence.
