He painted them with intense dedication to botanical accuracy rather than an Impressionist’s attention to changing effects.” By contrast to these looser works, Beech Trees is “composed of tiny, jewel-like daubs of paint, creating a nearly dizzying level of detail.” Snyder was heavily influenced by the Hudson River School, and studied with some of the most important American artists of his time, including Albert Bierstadt, Charles Warren Eaton, William Morris Hunt and George Inness.
