Description: More than a century ago, Wild Cat Glen was known far and wide as the scenic wonder of York County. The narrow ravine, flanked with 150-foot high extremely steep rock faces, is located adjacent to the Susquehanna River, west of Accomack. Wild Cat Run, in draining some of the Hellam Hills, cascades down the rock faces as Wild Cat Falls. A “Masonic” resort was established there in 1870 and in the newspaper article of the day it was said that it was at the earlier site of the old “Eagle Sawmill”. For years, the falls, which is north of Wrightsville, was a getaway for people on both sides of the Susquehanna River. People would arrive at the falls via ferry, crossing from Marietta. They would cross over the stream near the falls on a narrow wooden bridge and use stairs and handrails going up the hillside, parallel to the falls. “The falls according to this article, remains one of York County’s most intriguing places, a well photographed scene of the falls cascading from the Hallam Hills and flowing into the river.
