This is Keramos model 2705. It features Pekingese. Dog is shown in standing position. This sculpture is called in German ‘Peking-Palasthund’. It is in brown and white tones with his nose and eyes in black with a little red on eyes. Gentle texture of ceramics beautifully resembles its fur. Looks splendid. It is made in stoneware with polychrome decoration. Austrian sculptor Rudolf Chocholka (1888 - 1958) designed this figurine. He was known for magnificent animal sculptures. In 1920 – 1930s he worked for company in UK modeling large hunting groups in bronze. He started with WKK in about 1940. Chocholka spent much of his time in the Schoenbrunn Zoo in Vienna to observe animals, sketch and photograph. This arose him for so lifelike animal figurines. The backside of this dog carries ‘Wien Keramos’ logo in black with ‘Made in Austria’. According to my books this is production of c. 1950s. It is known about ‘Wien Keramos’ that they often marked their figurines with original artist signs.We do not see it on this item. There is also Golden Crown E&R paper sticker attached to dog’s body. This is known distributor of WKK pieces. Figurine measures about 5 1/4" x 2” and stands 3 3/4” tall. Condition is immaculate with no chips or cracks found. Colors are bright and vibrant. There is little crazing typical on such vintage ceramics. There is also something making noise inside of this piece as it is often happening with vintage ceramic figures. Dog displays very well.
