Description: Three different articles titled: YALE SCIENTISTS UNITE TO FIND -- WHAT MAKES DRUNKARDS? WHAT CURES THEM? These three original articles appeared in the February 11, February 18 and March 4, 1945 editions of "The American Weekly" magazine insert for "The New York Journal-American" newspaper. They are listed as Chapter I, Chapter II, and Chapter IV. Missing is Chapter III that would have been dated February 25. I also do not know whether others were done after the Chapter IV edition here. These pages were rescued from damaged issues of the newspaper magazine insert. I purchased them at a local auction, and do not know any other history on how they made there way to Frederick, MD. I had to trim the edges to eliminate lots of small tears and roughness. I still had to use several pieces of clear tape to repair small tears along the edges. These stories are intact, very readable and collectible, but the paper has yellowed and is brittle. The excellent illustration art caught my eye as I went through the newspaper pages. The bold title definitely catches your attention. All three were written by William Seabrook. The excellent illustrations are by Dan Content, Joe Little, James William Carling, as well as several other drawings and art pieces. Chapter I heading includes: For the First Time in the Old, Old Fight to Reclaim Alcoholics, a University Has Mobilized Its Specialized Forces in a Strategically Planned Assault on John Barleycorn -- And How Far the Battle Has Progressed Is Graphically Told by Author Seabrook. The article begins: That red-nosed old reprobate, John Barleycorn, is being taken apart at Yale University by a group of scientists who have decided it's high time the world knew just what drink and drunkenness are all about. As a vital part of the research program--the first of the kind ever undertaken by a great university--the scientists are seeking a means of curing or helping the many, many thousands of men and women who drink too much for their own good... The full opened double-pages measure 14 3/4" x 20 1/4". All three have the deep vertical folds down the center where the normal newspaper is folded. The back-side of these articles have lots of unrelated articles, photos, drawings, etc. I'll place these pages in a plastic sleeve and secure between two pieces of white foam board. Mailing will be by USPS First Class in a bubble envelope. I'll mail same day, or next day after PayPal payment is received. Mailing is included in the final bid price -- no additional charges for the buyer. Track Page Views With Auctiva's FREE Counter
