The Raketa Polar wristwatch is a unique piece that was manufactured in the Ukraine during the 1980s. It has 19 jewels and is a mechanical (manual) movement watch. The watch does not come with papers, a box, or a manual/booklet. It is a great addition to any watch collection and is perfect for those who appreciate the vintage style.The first Raketa 24-hours began to be produced towards the end of the 1970s, and the target audience was soldiers serving not on land, but deep underwater - on submarines.This, of course, was quite logical, because, remaining on a submarine for weeks and months, many soldiers could naturally lose the perception of time, namely day and night.In addition, these Raketas also helped residents of the distant lands of the vast country - the Arctic. Where it sometimes gets dark already at 12 o'clock in the afternoon, such watches with 24-hour markings made it possible to understand at any time of day whether it was night or day, six o'clock in the evening or in the morning.The watches were produced at the once famous Petrodvorets watch factory in the city of St. Petersburg. The enterprise was not only very large, but also in a sense a benchmark - the factory produced, perhaps, the best accessories in the entire Union. MechanismThe 24-hour Raketa was based on a unified mechanism for all modifications of the basic Raketa-2609NA. The mechanism installed inside was called 2623.N and was a true "in-house" one, as it was entirely produced at the Petrodvorets Watch Factory and assembled by hand there. The caliber had 19 stones, a power reserve of ~38 hours, a double shock-proof device (balance axis and escapement wheel) and not a single unnecessary complication.Design, case, materialsRegardless of the version, the watch had a round chrome-plated steel case with a diameter of 44 millimeters, an internal rotating bezel with a separate head, perfectly readable circular markings (Arabic numerals alternating with rectangular marks) and very thin hands of different lengths.The 24-hour Raketa is one of the most memorable and original watches produced in the USSR.
