Made to the exact 1926 federal standard, as used between then and 1948 along this famous highway. US 99 is America's other lost highway, second only to the Mother Road, Route 66, in the pantheon of bygone highway designations. US 99 went from Canada to Mexico, starting in Calexico, California at the border with Mexicali and heading to Los Angeles, where it picks up the routing of what is now mainly California State Route 99 and Interstate 5. It entered Washington from Portland, Oregon at Vancouver, and headed north to cross into Canada at Blaine again, essentially following the modern-day route of Interstate 5 through the cities of Bellingham, Seattle, Olympia and Tacoma. An original of these is very hard to come by. They were retired from the roads of Washington long ago, with most of them being destroyed and only a few examples circulating on the collector's market. An original would easily run many hundreds or even thousands of dollars on the collector's market. So here's your chance to get your hands on a fantastic display piece...without breaking the bank.
