Description: Night view with other monuments in background. This national memorial was opened in 1954 and was dedicated to all Marines who have given their lives in defense of the United States since 1775. It was inspired by the 1945 photo of 6 Marines raising the U.S. flag atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II. The Memorial weighs 100 tons. The approximate 4 x 5 3/4 inch card is in good condition, scratches and dings, mark in the sky, perforated on one side, aging on the back, with wear on the corners.
