Description: Original 1961 modern abstract depicting 2 alien-like figures kissing. By 20th c. American artist Walter G. Cleveland (b. 1940). Cleveland was born in Santa Barbara and raised in a rural atmosphere where his appreciation for nature was fostered. He enrolled in the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts where he first studied print-making with Morris Blackburn. At Pasadena City College he studied under Shiro Ikegawa and Ben Sakoguchi. He exhibited at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts 1960, 1961; Los Angeles County Art Museum, 1962 ; California State Fair 2 years; Small Images II at California State LA 1967. His works were purchased by the US Info Agency for Overseas Embassies; Ithaca College Art Museum.Monotype on linen sheet.Signed Cleveland 1961 lower right.Inscribed 2 ED 50 lower left.Inscribed on back "given to David Sellin, Cleveland 863".Mounted in original frame.Measures 11 1/4" x 12 3/4" sheet.Framed size 13 1/4" x 14 3/4".Acquired from the collection of art historian and curator David Sellin (1930-2006).
