The Collection: This comic is from a collection of many hundreds that belonged to a friend of our family who passed away on October 19, 2021. He bought them off the rack as a child in the 1940s and 50s. They stayed carefully tucked away in the same home since that time. The first time they were handled or moved is when they were put into a tub when his house was cleaned out after his death. This was not done by us but was mostly done carefully and only a few appeared to be damaged in the process. The original owner had no spouse or children and no other living family, so many of his things came to us. Included in this collection are many Dell Four Color and Disney titles, including a nearly complete run of Uncle Scrooge and a very long run of Walt Disney's Comics and Stories, and many Captain Marvel Adventures and Marvel Family comics from the 1950s. Update September 2024: All but a few of the Fawcett Comics have been listed and sold. There are still over 200 Disney comics to list. About Me: I used to be an avid comic collector. I always had a copy of the Overstreet guide and was always on the lookout for comics on my wish list. I even worked in a comic book store for about a year when I was in college. That was a long time ago. I never lost the love of comics, but the space to store a big collection became problematic and I sold my very large collection in the late 1980s. I just never started collecting again. About This Listing: Publisher, series, issue, and title: Dell Publishing Co., WALT DISNEY'S COMICS AND STORIES, December 1943 Vol. 4 No. 3 (Issue No. 39) First impression: Detached cover, still some eye appeal and visual continuity, but quite damaged and dirty. Interior isn't too bad. A low-grade comic. Degree of gloss: Dull. Condition of cover: Cover is detached and torn in multiple places along the spine. There is a subscription crease and several other long creases. The bottom edge has numerous small tears and chips. The right edge also has some chipping. There is a stain or dark fingerprint at the right edge near Donald's forward foot. There is quite a lot of scuffing and some accumulation of light dirt. Corners: The top right corner has multiple small creases. The bottom right has a long crease and is missing 1/2" of the corner. The left corners are both rounded with missing bits. The top left is missing a 1" piece. Spine and staples: Cover is detached. This is a single staple book. The staple is discolored and maybe a little rusted, but no migration. Original staples: Yes Interior staples: Tight and centered. Nearly shiny. Paper color and condition: Dark off-white. Supple enough. A little gritty, perhaps stiff, but not brittle at all. Smell: Almonds, earthy. Interior condition: There is some tearing around and near the staple. In the first several wraps, the staple is popped, but the book is still holding together. One of the pages near the front is askew and has some overhang wear. There are some folded corners toward the back. The corners are a bit dirty and worn from handling. Like all but a few books out of many hundreds in the collection, this book is complete. No puzzles were done, and nothing was clipped or cut out. No repairs have been attempted. If I had to give it a grade: 1.0 Fair I am not a professional comic book grader, but I have done my best to describe and photograph the comic being offered in this listing. Thanks for looking and have a beautiful day.
