This basket has a broad, loose and arbitrary weaving pattern, Midare plaiting which compliments the ordered ikebaba ceremonial tea ritual. The root handle is a natural element to the basket which lends to its rustic quality. This basket is actually quite uniform in construction, noticing the use of wide bamboo plaits and double plaiting the base and crown pieces. Also of note is the burnished and soot-blackened bamboo strips, which are to enchant the eye with duality.
