VOLUME ONE fanzine reprint FANSCIENT #1-5 (1947-48) Henry Kuttner, Neil R. Jones

Description: Facsimile reprint (not retyped) of the 1940s Science Fiction fanzine THE FANSCIENT. This fanzine ran for 14 issues (the last issue was a double-sized issue #13/14) and was originally published as an undersized 4" x 5" fanzine averaging 32 pages an issue with very few ads. Each issue had many articles and some fiction. This omnibus reprint is done in 3 volumes (150 to 160 pages per volume) and the three volumes together contain the complete run of the fanzine. I am listing them as individual volumes as well as a listing with all three volumes in one set. This reprint is enlarged so that each page is 8 1/2 x 11 (which appears to be what the original paste-up size of the old fanzine was before the pages were shrunk down). Needless to say, enlarging them makes them much easier to read. These reprints are photocopies, 8 1/2 x 11, side-stapled with heavy glossy covers. THE FANSCIENT was a highly regarded fanzine of its time and each issue featured an author profile written by the authors themselves and covered the major names in the field at the time (and most have never been reprinted anywhere before). The original issues are difficult to find and it took me more than two years to put together the set I copied for these reprints which include every page and every cover. Some covers were published in color and appear in color here. THE FANSCIENT omnibus reprint #1 (reprints issues 1-5 from September 1947 through Fall 1948). Author autobiography profiles are by A.E. Van Vogt, Edmond Hamilton, Edward E. Smith, Jack Williamson and David H. Keller, M.D. (these include an author photo, profile and bibliography of published fiction). There are articles by Henry Kuttner, Forrest J Ackerman ("The First Fan Magazine"), Neil R. Jones (an outline of the future history in the Prof. Jameson stories) and others. Artwork by D.
