Description: The Intimate Life of the Individual, the Family, Society and the Race by Winfield, Scott Hall M.S, MD, Ph.D. The Midland Press, Chicago, 1926 First Edition. Handsome brown leather-look Hardbound book measuring 7.75 x 5.5 inches and containing 207 pages. Pease note: this is the handsome brown leatherette edition and not the less fancy blue one. This is a fascinating look at the intimate life of Americans in the period between the World Wars--The Roaring Twenties. Socially the book is dated, but none the less gives us an insight into how sexuality and intimacy were viewed by this Dr. Winfield Scott Hall. It is very far-reaching--from the development of an embryo to childbirth...and an insistence on the sanctity of the home. (Venereal disease was a fearsome thing, and that, mixed with a good dose of religion, was a daunting factor in a young man's development. I liked p.60: when to tell the Child the Story of Life; p. 81 Helping Boys to Avoid Dangerous Habits;p. 105 Young men and Young women and Questions about the sexual Life. Yes, there are illustrations and drawings, and yes, there are hints of a smug feeling that God and medicine can create a perfect race.
