Description: As best as I can ascertain, this beret dates from 1962-1980. It does not have a unit flash, but there is evidence there was a pin at one point. The beret supplier is “Denmark’s Military” from “N.Y., N.Y. 10012” 10012 is the area code for Manhattan, NY. I found the Denmark Military Equipment Co. being in that zip code in New York as far back as 1943. Which was written about in the “SUPPLEMENTAL NATIONAL DEFENSE APPROPRIATION, 1944”. The beret manufacturer is the United Hatters Cap Millinery Union (1934–1983). In 1962, President Kennedy authorized the green beret to be worn by the Army Special Forces and gave a commencement address at West Point, New York. In his speech, he described the green beret as a symbol of excellence and a badge of courage. The United Hatters, Cap and Millinery Workers International Union was a labor union that John F. Kennedy addressed during his political career, most notably giving a speech at their convention where he spoke about the importance of fair labor practices and the need to address issues facing workers in the hat-making industry; this connection is significant because it demonstrates Kennedy's support for organized labor and his engagement with various worker groups during his rise to political prominence.
