Description: Vintage Smartee Doll: Caitlin the Chef, in Orig. Box, w/accessories, Unopened!. Back in 1999, Jennifer Fine and Jennifer Hamlin introduced a line of dolls designed to show women as professionals—and inspire girls to aspire to be professionals. The dolls reflected the diversity of women in society – and professions. After Oprah applauded the quality and the mission of the dolls and newspapers (including NYTimes and LA Times) publicized the new line and the new approach, the dolls were hard to find. I wanted my two children – a girl and a boy – to see toys that reflected that diversity so I tried to find a number of dolls. I putthe dolls on display– some in my office at women’s studies and others in my home. I never opened the boxes, although my kids and my students offered to play with the “liberated” toys. It seems that the American toy market wasn’t ready for such toys and the company went out of business. In this deal, I’m offering one of Smartees’ rare dolls, Caitlin the Chef. “Do you want to make the Best Meals Ever?”the box ask . During the holidays, it’s the perfect doll for every little girl or boy who helps out with the holiday feast. I’ve never had this doll out of its box. It’s all there: The booklet (never opened,never out of its protective case); Caitlin in her white chef’s hat and coat and navy trousers, the kitchen background and ALL the accessories – cutlery,serving utensils, glasses, plates and bowls, salt and pepper, blender, coffeepot, pitcher and lid, flower, sugar, spice, sauce, oil, pots and pans and the necessary comb and brush. Everything is there because the box was never opened.It was produced in 2000, Doll is about 10-1/2 in. tall (it’s hard to tell because she’s still in the box. And to make things even better, I portion of the proceeds of this sale goes toFeeding America. Caitlin would like that.
