Description: This very nice Santa Clara polychrome redware bowl dates to the 1930s and was probably made for the tourist trade. The 50 cent price on the bottom would substantiate this estimate I think. It obviously was well cared for over the many decades since it was made. It has no chips or scratches though I detect an almost unnoticeable crack in the rim. It goes no further than 1/4” to where there is a barely noticed paint pop. My guess is that this is a clay imperfection and may date to the time it was made. In any case, it is only as I write this that I found it. The only other mark is a fire burn near the rim on a grey triangular pattern. Again, this does not detract from the overall appearance of the bowl. The design of the bowl is traditional with the usual colors of brown and grey with white outlining. All of this is on the usual highly polished red slip, typical of vintage Santa Clara redware. There is no signature or other identifying marks on the bottom. The inside has a matte finish. It is 4” in diameter, 2.5” in height, and has a 2.5” opening.
