DESCRIPTION: Vintage Russian lacquer box. Lacquered paper mache. Rectangular form on 4 feet. Hinged lid with raised central oval medallion depicting an unidentified village panorama, including a medieval gate, cathedrals and other sites of interest. It isn't clear in the photos but this panorama incorporates metallic elements in the lacquer. Red interior. Titled on front: "Холуй - Золотые Ворота - исп РЮ". Title: "Золотые Ворота" (Golden Gate). School/village: Холуй (Kholui). Artist: artist unknown. "исп РЮ" may indicate an artist or studio. Marked on bottom: "РЮ - Hand Made in Russia". Label on bottom: "$177 - Laqbox". 1980s-90s I believe. CONDITION: Excellent original condition. No damage. No wear to speak of. No restorations or touch ups. No splits, chips, nicks, dings, breaks, cracks, dents, rubs, scratches, scuffs, gouges. There is no wear to the interior. The lacquer is free of crazing, cracks, lines, bubbles. No warping. No chemical or cleaning-related damage to the finish. No separations. Any appearance otherwise is due to reflections. The hinge is in excellent condition with no issues. Very clean as found, inside and out. From a non smoking home. No stains, discolorations, grime, residues. No finish or color irregularities. No fading.
