Description: This is an old used set that I purchased at a yard sale. I was familiar with Rooney brushes because my father used to have one and I knew that they were expensive. If someone were to use this set you would have to go through the process of sterilizing the brush and probably the dish and the razor. The brush is a three band badger bristle brush which means that the bristles were taken from different parts of the badger coat. I do not know what level of brush it is but I have a feeling that it is quite a good one. Badger bristles are exceptional because they lather very well and also act as an exfoliator. Most Rooney brushes were hand assembled and the wooden handles and bowl were probably worked on a lathe by hand also. This set was originally purchased at a Lazarus department store as can be seen by the tag. The box is in kind of rough shape because it looks like it had tape on it. But it’s still a fine collectors item and it’s still usable. It takes regular cartridges. R. A. Rooney & Sons Ltd. was a maker of shaving brushes, with over 200 years in business both in the UK and overseas (plus more than a century in Galway, Ireland). The exact origin of this company is unknown because of a huge fire in 1886 at their Bishopsgate plant that destroyed most of their old records. Vintage Rooney Brushes Shaving Gift Set.
