This box was likely made of Plaskon which is easily confused with Bakelite, a different plastic. Both are compression molded but fillers in the Bakelite resin like wood flour and asbestos cause it to be dark in color. The Plaskon Company, Inc. made its name with a urea-formaldehyde compound called Plaskon that used light-colored fillers. Not limited to basic brown or black, Plaskon could be made in a variety of colors, including white. Plaskon has physical properties similar to Bakelite and was often used for radios, trophies and appliances. Search Plaskon on eBay, there are many ads and products.
