Description: Paden City Artware Aqua Blue 3” Pitcher The Hermitage Nashville Tennessee. Pitcher is labeled "The Hermitage" and stamped "Paden City Artware 22 KT gold on the bottom 3" tall and 4” wide souvenir Creamer Pitcher. It’s a beautiful Aqua robins egg Blue with White glaze & 22 KY Gold The pitcher is in absolutely perfect condition with no damage at all. A nice vintage souvenir from The Hermitage, the home of President Andrew Jackson, a historical plantation and museum located in Davidson County, Tennessee, United States, 10 miles east of downtown Nashville. Paden City Artware was a ceramic stoneware pottery started in Paden City, West Virginia in 1940 as F & M Artware, using the initials of the owners, William Ford and Lyle Mitchell. Originally manufacturing decorative artware such as bud vases and ash trays with 22 KT gold trim, they gradually transitioned to the souvenir trade, manufacturing "moonshine" jugs as salt and pepper shakers, pencil parkers and toothpick holders along with a vast line of various sized creamer pitchers, all labelled with some tourist destination, state or city and using the same 22 KT gold trim & labeling. About the same time as the product line shift came the name change to Paden City Artware in 1956. You can find what I call transition pieces, that is, labelled souvenirs with F & M Artware on the bottom or decorative pieces labelled Paden City Artware. Most are identified as "Paden City Artware" or "P.C.A." and many say "Hand Crafted". They must have had some of the most successful salesmen of the time because souvenir pieces can be found from 1000's of locations and virtually all 48 of the contiguous states. I've yet to see one from Alaska or Hawaii but that doesn't mean they don't exist. The business was shut down in 1985 so all Paden City Artware pieces are at least 35 years old and F & M Artware pieces have survived at least 60+ years. The towns on this stretch of the Ohio River were famous for glassware companies in the 20th century. The only glassware company still in business in Paden City that I am aware of is Marble King, started in 1949.
