Description: Vintage Hand Carved OVAL Shell CAMEO Left Facing NECKLACE Pendant 1/20 12K G.F. 16 inch * Please see all pictures and read description! I'm happy to answer any questions. This is such a pretty cameo necklace! It is a genuine, hand carved shell cameo from the 1950s. It is oval in shape and is mounted in gold tone metal and the clasp says 1/20 12K. The cameo depicts a left facing lady (hard to find!) who is nicely carved in Carnelian shell. Evidence of tool marks from the artisan can be seen. The gold tone mounting shows a small bit of darkening with some slightly roughened areas to the metal but nothing that really detracts (see pictures). The two balls are stationary and do not move. When held to the light, some very slight, expected crazing can be seen within the shell. The lady is beautifully carved with much detail. There is no signature on the cameo as to the artisan. The gold-fill chain shows some slight age related wear and the spring ring holds securely. The chain measures 16-1/2 inches with a drop of slightly over 3/4 inch.
