Vintage Orpheum Lange Ditson Banjo Nameplate Label

Description: Vintage Orpheum Lange Ditson Banjo Nameplate Label This is a plastic Orpheum nameplate from the 20's or 30's which will be useful in restoring an Orpheum banjo from that era. It comes with a 1mm drill bit which has a 1/16" shaft that can be mounted in a Dremel tool or a drill to make a pilot hole for the 1.2mm estucheon pins (nails) which are also provided for mounting the nameplate on a banjo. This drill bit also happens to be the right size for the pilot hole for HO RR spikes inserted into banjo fretboards. Dimensions of the label are about 1-3/8"x5/8". You may want to shorten the pins by nipping them with small diagonal cutting pliers depending on whether your mounting is on a dowel stick or (more likely) inside a rim. William L. Lange and William P. Rettberg acquired the J.H. Buckbee Banjo factory in 1897. They moved to East 13th Street, NYC, and began making and selling Orpheum banjos in 1903. Some years later but at least in the teens, they moved to 225-227 East 24th Street, NYC and produced Orpheum banjos. This is also the address of Lange's Paramount banjos. Wm L. Lange took over sole control of the company in 1922 and changed the title to Wm. L. Lange. For a time, Oliver Ditson was the sole distributor of Orpheum banjos and often banjos banjos made in the Orpheum factory had the Ditson name on them without any reference to Lange or Orpheum. This label or nameplate was used on a variety of instruments made in the Orpheum/Lange factory including banjos, banjo ukuleles, and banjo mandolins.
