Description: Navajo Sand Painting by Frank Martin This detailed, precise, ceremonial sand painting was done by Frank Martin, a Navajo painter from Shiprock, New Mexico in the four corners area of the Navajo reservation. His work is sold all over the world. The sand painting is done on a Cotichi Pueblo rawhide drum that is 19" in diameter. It has been soaked and stretched on a frame and fastened with leather strips. Many white eagle feathers and beads (signifying faith and protection) are attached with leather to the bottom of the drum. The artist used a radical composition in the sand painting called Whirling Log (tsil-ol-ni) to tell a story in the healing ceremonies. The painting is 19" in diameter and measures 32" from the top of the drum to the bottom of the feathers. This is a large, original sand painting in wonderful condition. shipping to include insurance
