Description: STUNNING MAORI TEKOTEKO FULL TA MOKO FACE TATTOO INLAY SHELL EYES AND TRADITIONAL TOP KNOT SUPERBLY CARVED FIGURE.MAORI TEKOTEKO IN TRADITIONAL FORM WITH THREE FINGERED HANDS CLASPED ACROSS BELLY.HAND CARVED WOOD TEKOTEKO HAS FULL TA MOKO FACE TATTOO AND TRADITIONAL TOP KNOT. THE SUPERBLY CARVED FIGURE FEATURES INLAY SHELL EYES, DEEPLY CARVED MOKO TATTOOS, THREE TOED FEET, DEEP RICH DARK PATINA. THE FIGURE MEASURES APPROX 16" TALL X 5 9/16" WIDE X 2 3/4" DEEP. TRIBAL ANCESTOR, HOUSE PROTECTOR, GUARDIAN. THE TEKO TEKO WERE FREESTANDING FIGURES THAT STOOD ON TOP OF CARVED MEETING HOUSES, MOST OF THESE FIGURES HAD A STANCE THAT PRESENTED A POSITION IN A HAKA OR A FIGHTING STANCE WITH A WEAPON. THE PURPOSE OF THE TEKOTEKO WAS TO OVERLOOK THE FORECOURT IN FRONT OF A CARVED HOUSE AND CHALLENGE ANY VISITORS TO THE TRIBE. IF VISITORS WERE DEEMED TO BE FRIENDLY, TEKOTEKO WOULD THEN OFFER PROTECTION. FEATURES OF THE TEKOTEKO, THE HEAD IS LARGE BECAUSE MAORI CONSIDER THE HEAD TO BE THE CENTER OF PERSONAL POWER. THE LARGE HANDS SPREAD OVER THE ABDOMEN EMPHASIZE THE CENTER OF THE BODY. THE HAIR IS BOUND UP IN A TOP KNOT. SUPERBLY CARVED WITH GREAT POWER AND MANA. I BELIEVE THE CARVING IS MADE FROM MOANA WOOD BUT NOT CERTAIN OF THIS DETAIL.
