Description: Vintage Lancaster & Sandland (Hanley) Ltd Sandland Ware Display Plate John Constable Paintings. Lovely square plate size is 6" x 6" (15cm x 15cm) in very good condition. Has tiny crazing from age. These are not cracks in the actual structure of the pottery but actually an effect on the glazed part of the pottery. See photos for close up of these flaws. Stamped on the back John Constable R. A. 1776 - 1837 and a batch number at the top 1232. Mid 20th Century (1944-1968). Collectible. The Lancaster family had been involved in pottery manufacture from 1887 in a company called Lancaster & Barker. From 1944 the business was renamed Lancaster & Sandland. The company went into voluntary liquidation in November 1968.
