Description: We go to estate sales regularly and come across a wide array of unique and rare items. We add to our growing online inventory daily. We pick up new items from all over the world and all over the US. We also have a growing customer wish list. If you'd like to, feel free to add us to your saved seller's list and let us know what you collect and/or need. We’d be honored to add you to our customer wish list. We ask what we consider to be a fair price for anything we sell and understand that our idea of a fair price may be someone else's 'that's too much' price. If that's the case, feel free to make us an offer and will consider it. We also have sales regularly, so check back often. There is always a Sale by TheBay! Now onto the item for sale. For sale is a vintage U.S. Navy Officer Service Dress Blue uniform with jacket and trousers.PLEASE NOTE: We also have a complete Dinner Dress Blue uniform available for sale, if it hasn't sold already, that we got from the same gentleman. We picked this up recently at an estate sale for a gentleman who served in the U.S. Navy for 25 years and retired, as the jacket indicates, with a rank of Lieutenant Commander O-4.Both the jacket and trousers have tags indicating they were made by Abbott Military Tailors and have a matching name and number on the tags.We were able to obtain quite a bit of information about this gentleman and his distinguished career in the Navy, but for the sake of his privacy, we will only send the name and information to the next owner of this small piece of history. What we can share is that this gentleman was accepted to the United States Naval Flight program in 1958. He earned his wings two years later and later served as a flight instructor in the Navy. He was heavily involved in the Cuban Missile Crisis and co-navigated the USS Independence aircraft carrier. He was also involved in anti-submarine suirvellance during the Cold War and assigned to NAS Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. After a little more than 25 years, he retired in 1984.Both the jacket and the trousers are in excellent condition and date to no later than 1984. We trust Naval officers get new uniforms throughout their careers, so we would assume this uniform would date the the latter part of this gentleman's career.Unfortunately, we could not locate a tag with the size anywhere on the jacket or trousers, so we can't be sure of the exact size. However, the dinner dress blue jacket has a tag indicating that it is a 42 long, so this jacket is most likely the same size and the gentleman who wore this uniform was slender and of average height. We did take several measurements to help you gauge the size of this uniform and they are as such: TrousersInseam 31"Waist, from left to right when laid flat while buttoned 15 1/2" JacketChest, measured armpit to armpit 20"Waist, measured at top of front pockets 18 1/2"Shoulders, measured from seam to seam across shoulders 18 1/2"Length, measure from armpit to bottom of jacket 20 1/4" If there are any measurements we did not include that you need, feel free to send us a message and we'll send you the measurement. Both the jacket and trousers are in excellent condition with no moth holes, tears, loose stitching, holes in the pockets, all buttons are accounted for and we saw no other damage and there is very little wear. We did see a few light spots on the material, but we trust they'd clean up well with a proper dry cleaning. This uniform will weigh more than 6 pounds when packed for shipping. We offer several fully insured shipping options, just make your selection upon checkout. Thanks for looking and God bless!
