Vintage Key Imports Samhongsa HO Brass NYC 4-8-2 Mohawk L-4a, Runs, C7

Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Offering this HO brass New York Central 4-8-2 Mohawk L-4a steam locomotive made by Samhongsa of Korea (1971-2005) and imported by Key Imports (1975-2008). I believe this to be the 1977 version, of which only 300 were made and imported by Key. I have the original box in VG/P6 condition. The foam casing is VG-EX missing the top cover/layer. No literature. Also included are a pair of smoke/air deflectors with mounting screws, some tiny bolts/screws, a couple of unknown parts, and a jewel for the non-working headlight. I obtained this loco at a Collector Estate Auction, so I don’t know its history. It appears to be in EX condition. I call it C7 primarily due to not knowing how brass discoloring is graded (see PICs). I see 1-2 specs on the left side of the tender that look like a “heat spot”. Solder/flux is showing in multiple places. The right rear brake is broken. I am not aware of any other flaws. Check out the pictures for yourself. No red foam “bleed”. I will wrap the loco in plastic. I tested the loco on my DC test track and it ran fairly well with some hesitation. I, also, tested by touching power leads directly to the wheels and it ran very well in F&R. Note: it has a can motor. The engine alone weighs 1 lb. 3 oz. with the tender at 8 oz. With 8 drive wheels, it should pull a nice size load and look good running the rails of your layout. A nice addition for your collection, too.
