Description: ***********Although the ETA 2472 automatic movement runs strong it does lose nearly 3 minutes by the end of its approximate 41 hour power reserve period. Given this and considering the movement's unknown service history a complete overhaul is likely long overdue and recommended.***********This seldom seen 1965 Jacques Monnat/Jaquet-Girard Airvac 400 single crown super-compressor has a satin silver "SWISS T" signed dial that under the heavily scratched crystal appears to be in lovely condition. The original tritium, which has aged to a deep patina, no longer glows after being exposed to bright light. Some lume is missing from the minute hand. No bezel ever came on this particular reference. The all stainless steel case shows honest wear with moderate signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped "VACUUMIZED GUARANTEED 12 ATU 13638 SWISS WATERPROOF" with "ALL STAINLESS STEEL,""AIRVAC 400" and "JG" stamped in the center. The inside of the case back is stamped "SWISS MADE" followed by "SUPER-COMPRESSOR,""BREVET + 317537,""BREVET + 337462,""S.A. DES MONTRES,""JAQUET-GIRARD,""SWISS" and "5-65." The crystal should be replaced. The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss "JAQUET-GIRARD S.A." stamped ETA 2472 automatic movement with quickset date function is clean, runs strong albeit a bit slow and the date wheel rolls over at approximately 11:58 pm. The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After recently winding the non-screwdown cross-hatched crown 39 full revolutions the movement lost about 3 minutes by the end of its approximate 41 hour power reserve period. The crown winds smoothly. Given that this watch is nearly 60 years old, that the movement runs a bit slow and considering its unknown service history (there is one visible watchmaker service marking on the inside of the case back which appears to date back to 1981) a complete overhaul is likely long overdue and recommended. This watch measures approximately 35 mm excluding the crown, approximately 38 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the mid-case, is approximately 8 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 11 mm.Given the vintage nature of this watch, that the movement runs a bit slow and considering its unknown service history a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. Please thoroughly read this entire listing and kindly ask any and all questions you may have prior to buying as this sale is final and no refunds of any kind will be given. And please study the 12 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch. Expedited and insured shipping along with signature confirmation will be provided.
