Description: These stamps are produced in Indonesia in production of Artisanal Batiks. They are dipped in wax and stamped onto cloth. The artisan repeats the pattern through out the pattern to create a beautiful batik fabric. The tjap is made of narrow strips of copper that are twisted and shaped into batik designs, then soldered to a steel base with a handle. Often the designs are drawn out by batik artist just on a piece of paper. For a skilled craftsman these are all they need. Each tjap takes about 2 weeks to make. The original handle is on the back. These items are collectables for a quilter, artist, stamp artist. This would make an great centerpiece of their collection and these pieces are each unique. These were actually used to create batik art so there are signs of wear, including some prongs that are bent, adding to the character of the stamp.
