Description: Stunning vintage 25” tall Indonesian Wayang Golek Rod Puppet. This wonderful piece of Indonesian Art has been meticulously handcrafted, with a carved and painted head, an elaborate headdress and a long neck. It wears a bib and apron with beads and sequins and a long batik cotton skirt. The hands and arms are also carved of wood and are controlled by two rods. Wayang Golek puppetry is an integral part of Indonesian heritage, often used to depict epic tales and moral teachings. In addition to being performed on stage Wayang Golek Puppets are often displayed in homes and temples and are believed to have spiritual powers. Our puppet is mounted on a 6”x6”x2” stand allowing for easy display. Made approximately around the 1940s/50s, it is in very good vintage condition. There are signs of age and use but no major issues.
