Blataire d’Espagne a grande fleur.” originally printed in "Recueil des plantes dessinées et gravées par ordre du roi Louis XIV” Paris, 1786 which was a compilation of botanical drawings by Abraham Bosse, Nicholas Robert, Denis Doadart, and others for the Académie Royale des Sciences in Paris. In 1667, the Academy began a scientific venture to publish a complete history of plants which would include chemical, medical and botanical analyses of all the species. The resultant work, published and refined in several versions, was not offered for sale but kept for research with selected copies given as royal gifts.The gilded and painted wooden frame, glazed, measures 20 5/8” in width and 25 1/4” in height. The image measures 12 1/8” in width and 16 5/8” in height. The plate impression measures 11 1/2” in width and 15” in height.The 1980s era reproduction botanical engraving is presented in very good vintage condition.
